If there is one thing we can all agree on is that I am definitely not a “runner”. Even those of you barely check on me on Instagram might have seen my moans on Instagram. My longest run was about 8k, my medals usually for 5k and sometimes even 8-10 year olds beat me on the trail. I just competed in a winter running festival on 5k, but I was very proud of myself because I run my best despite since last October, so in the past 3 months I only ran 3 times. This pretty much sums up my lifetime of running challenges in full.
A few things have played a part in this lack of running – a love of pretty much everything else over and above running and just the hatred of thinking I’m not very good at something. BUT very recently I changed my outlook on running, as I realized that even with all of the above, it’s actually the one activity where I see progression very quickly, which pleases me greatly and motivates me to keep it up.
I’ll probably never run a marathon, but I’ve decided that I won’t let it stop me from figuring out a way of actually getting some enjoyment from trotting along the river bank of Danube… which has actually already begun. I’ve set myself a 5k pace goal that surprisingly I achieved first time and ever since I don’t run circles in a park, I easily accomplish and would like to run a 10k by April. I’m not ashamed to admit that I run 5k in around 30-35 minutes which I know isn’t going to get me onto the Olympic team, but for me, that’s such an achievement. I would like to be able to do 5k in under 25 minutes though, which is what I’m working towards at the moment.
Many call me crazy for running outside, even if it’s -6 Celsius degree, but I just can’t stand treadmills in gyms. It’s so boring for me, even worse than running in circles in parks, that you basically just run in one spot while staring at your own self in the mirror or a wall, when you can just be outdoors, on the fresh air, looking at the beautiful scenery. And it also bugs me that they can be so loud – makes me feel like an elephant going for a jog!
