I know Golden Milk (also known as turmeric tea) became a top search result in Google but I can not leave it out. I started to drink this ancient Ayurvedic turmeric tea (also called as turmeric latte) when I stopped drinking coffee because it is harmful for my anxiety and my already poor digestion.

I started to replace coffee in the morning with exotic teas, chai lattes, hot cocoa and golden milk. I love to mix them up in the mornings and grab something different each morning. For each drink I have my own natural recipe, because I just can’t stand those out-of-the-box drink powders packed with sugars and preservatives and who knows what…

Turmeric gives a beautiful golden yellow color to your golden milk and also has a long list of healing benefits. Hence the name, as turmeric is considered to be the GOLD – MINE of nutrients. My primary reason to consume it is to help with inflammation.  as curcumin, turmeric’s most significant compound, has medicinal properties and is used to reduce joint pain, arthritis, inflammation, and even treat depression.

Turmeric is a spice used widely and essentially in South Asian food like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangaldesh. It has a warm bitter taste.

Turmeric when used with Honey improves digestion and increases the beneficial flora activity in the gut. This blend is the strongest antibiotic certified by Ayurveda.

Not only turmeric has its magical benefits. Black pepper clears stuffy nose and relieves cough. Cardamom improves digestion and also imotives the symptoms of respiratory illness. Cinnamon also helps in curing common cold. Nutmeg keeps you warm and helps in combating common cold as well.

So many health benefits in one simple drink!

Ingredients

1 Tbs Turmeric Powder
1 Tsp Ground Ginger
1 Cinnamon Stick
5 Cloves
1 Pinch of Nutmeg Powder
2 Cups Plant Based Milk (Your Choice – Almond, Soy, Dairy, Hemp, etc)
1 Tbs Coconut Oil (optional, see notes below)
1 Pinch of Freshly Ground Black Pepper (optional, see notes below)
1 Pinch of Ground Cardamom
1 Tsp Honey/Maple Syrup/Preferred Sweetener

Directions

1. Blend or whisk all ingredients together except coconut oil, then warm through on the stove over medium heat for 15 minutes. Let it very gently simmer for 15 minutes but not boil.
2. During the final minute, add in the coconut oil and stir.
3. Remove the cinnamon stick, and transfer mixture to a blender (you can skip this step). Buzz mixture for a quick minute to build foam.

Notes

Black pepper helps to chemically extract the curcumin from the turmeric root, using part of pepper called piperine. Piperine makes it much easier for you to absorb all of the components of turmeric. But if you suffer from kidney disease (such as I do) you might opt to leave it out or minimize as much as you can.

Coconut Oil helps to break turmeric root or powder down into each of its parts… including curcumin. Effectively doing the same as black pepper without the heat. So if you can’t take the taste of pepper or decide to treat your kidney and leave it out, using oil is a great way to get the most curcumin.
