Spring is the most exciting season for me -a time of beauty, growth, and rebirth. And after a few warmer-day teasers last week, I am standing here with my arms wide open, waiting to embrace this glorious season in its full bloom (no pun intended).

Now, we may not have the power to ask mother nature to bring spring a little quicker, but we totally can put ourselves in that springtime mindset. (And I hope our articles really help you to get into that mindset.) If you can’t make it feel like springtime outside, you might as well create spring inside.

The first step? Fill your home with the gorgeous aromas that you know will surround you once the ground gives way to beautiful flower buds and those once-frozen streams start flowing with ease. Here are 3 of my favorite ways to make our home smell like springtime.

1. Homemade incense

Lighting homemade incense is a great way to fill up a room with the intoxicating aroma of your favorite herbs and flowers all year ’round. Create a bunch using herbs like sage and rosemary, and add other plants like fresh lavender and rose petals, then tie together using a natural cotton string. Hang to dry or let your bundle sit outside for a few days to a week, until it’s fully dried. Then it’s ready to use!

*Make sure the plants you use are safe to burn, as some can produce harmful fumes.

2. Potted flowers

Few things compare to the uplifting scent of a fresh flower. Fresh cut flowers are always a lovely addition to your home, but I prefer potted flowers, which last so much longer. Find the best-smelling potted flowers you can find, and place them strategically throughout your home. Set one pot atop the kitchen table, so it’ll be right at nose-level as you enjoy your breakfast each morning. Put another pot in the bathroom (choose one that can stand the conditions) and let the steam from your shower carry the scent into adjacent rooms. Place a pot or two right next to your bed so you wake up feeling like you slept in a bed full of wildflowers (but make sure you can fall asleep and won’t be bothered by the strong aromas some flowers have.)

3. DIY herbal & floral room spray

This one is simple, yet genius!

Fill a spray bottle with distilled water, and pop in some plants like sage, rosemary, lemon balm, and lavender. Let sit for a few hours, then mist in the air to create a beautiful, fresh aroma in every room! This spray should stay fresh for at least a few days — store in the refrigerator for maximum freshness.
