Let’s celebrate the first day of summer on June 21st with these Wild Woman rituals for summer solstice!

Summer solstice, also known as Litha is considered one of the most sacred Sabbats of the year. It marks the beginning of summer and is the longest day of the year. The solstice also holds deeper metaphors for life, fertility and the cycle of time and seasons.

The summer solstice is a great occasion to create your own Wild Woman Ceremony or Ritual. It’s also a good time to connect with nature; find someplace where you can sit to meditate, do yoga in the park, swim in the river or journal under a tree. There’s something invigorating about spending time alone in nature; it helps us reconnect with ourselves as well as with the natural world around us.

Wild Woman Rituals for Summer Solstice

1. Host a Summer Solstice gathering

On this day, I love to invite friends and family over for a summer solstice feast made with seasonal locally grown foods.

2. Build a bonfire

One of the main rituals for summer solstice is building a bonfire. Gather with your Wild Sisters around a bonfire and let your Wild side shine! Sing, dance, offer drinks, food, and music! Burn sacred wood and herbs in the bonfire to enhance the magic. Let the fire go out naturally and collect the ashes for use in rituals throughout the year or in your garden as a fertilizer.

3. Gather herbs

One of my favorite things to do on the day of summer solstice is to forage healing plants and herbs. Herbs constitute a strong element for celebrating the Midsummer solstice due to their strong association with magic and and their healing powers.

4. Create a flower-crown

If you gather with your it’s a great fun to make your own flower-crown for the celebration. Decorate it with summer flowers and herbs such as sunflowers, lavender, mint, rosemary, and basil. Use fabrics or ribbons in bold colors, like orange, pink and yellow.

5. Watch the Sunset

Nothing is more beautiful than to watch the sun set on the longest day of the year. Gather around the bonfire with your celebratory herby drink or teas, wrap yourself up in a blanket if needed and just enjoy the gifts of life.

6. Yoni bathing

The Summer Solstice is a time for renewal, rebirth, and self-love. It’s a time to honor your body and recognize that it is beautiful and worthy of your respect and care.

Find a secluded spot where you can lay comfortably on a towel. Take off your pants and underwear or any other clothing that would get in the way or make you feel uncomfortable. Then spread your legs and soak up as much sunlight as possible through your yoni — your own backyard would be perfect as you do not need to worry about uninvited visitors!

7. Create a prayer stick

An great way to express gratitude is by making a Prayer Stick or Prayer Tree. The branches of a tree have been used as symbols for many things, including life, death, rebirth, and resurrection. Trees are also considered sacred by many cultures around the world because they provide sustenance and shelter for animals and humans. You can use a branch from any tree that has meaning for you or that has been important in your life.

For this ritual, write down specific wishes on strips of paper and attach them to the tree branch with string or ribbon before placing it in your garden or another outdoor area where it will be exposed to sunlight throughout the day.

I encourage you to perform some of the rituals for Summer Solstice and even create your own rituals, as a way of honoring nature and all it has to offer us.
